Hamilton, Golden Horseshoe, Ontario

Golden Horseshoe · Community Guide

HAMILTONcity of waterfalls.

The Niagara Escarpment above the harbour

Hamilton has more than a hundred waterfalls, a brick-and-stone housing stock nobody else can match at the price, and a restaurant scene on James Street North that Toronto writes about. It is the last big-city value play in the Golden Horseshoe — and the one that has been moving fastest.

Straight answers

Hamilton, asked & answered.

The questions that come up on almost every first call.

Distance from Toronto and an industrial legacy that suppressed values for decades. That gap has been closing fast — Hamilton has been one of the strongest appreciation stories in the Golden Horseshoe, particularly in Durand, Westdale and Ancaster.

It depends on the trade you want. Ancaster and Dundas for established family value, Durand and Kirkendall for heritage and walkability, the Mountain for the most attainable detached, Stoney Creek and Waterdown for new construction.

McMaster's 35,000 students underpin Westdale and Ainslie Wood, and the downtown revival has broadened demand well beyond students. Some pockets carry rental licensing and duplex conversion rules — worth checking before you buy.

West Harbour and Confederation GO run about 68 minutes to Union on the Lakeshore West line. Aldershot in neighbouring Burlington is faster if you live in Waterdown or Dundas.

Over a hundred waterfalls and the Bruce Trail, the James Street North art and restaurant district, Supercrawl each September, a rebuilt Bayfront waterfront, and the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.
